soccer balls

various geometric variations of soccer balls made from pentagons and hexagons. The common football-shape consists of 12 Pentagons. In this example it is shown, that these 12 pentagons also exist in various different spheric geometries. In fact this can be mathematically proven.

The classic shape consists of 12 regular pentagons an 20 regular hexagons.

This variation is based on the tetraeder and therefore contains 4 hexagons (sitting at the corners of the underlying tetraeder).

When the edges of the “classic shape” are replaced by hexagons, this shape results:

Another tetraeder-variant

60 equal hexagons

80 hexagons

and different variants that can be found on this website…

A tribute to my private soccer-fanatism.
