St George College Freeform Roof
Client: WIEHAG GmbH, 2018
Architecture: Scott Brownrigg
Beneath a free-form roof surface are parallel laminated timber beams, which are intersected with a series of diagonal beams. Solely individual geometries result for 661 beams and for 1022 steel connecting parts.
Fabrication planning was parametric with UIHM. In addition to the 3D model, lists, all plans and manufacturing data for woodworking and steel parts were automatically generated.
The large number of steel parts requires a concept for faultless production and easy testing of the finished elements. For this purpose, a template system with movable gauges was developed and successfully used.
